Our History & Our Values
1st Security Bank of Deer Lodge was established on April 10, 1972 with the goal of “making banking competitive” in the Deer Lodge Valley.
50 years later, we believe we’ve honored that pledge to make banking competitive and have adopted a new promise to provide “Banking that Rises above the Rest”.
We believe in people. We value relationships. We grow when our customers grow – whether that growth is in our home county, or across the West. It’s important for us to hold tight to our pledge, keeping in mind that your success is our success, and your future is our future.
Our Community
We’re located in the lovely city of Deer Lodge, Montana. Ours is a city of around 3000 residents and is located between Butte and Missoula on I-90. Like many Montana towns, Deer Lodge has changed greatly over the years – from a free range cattle town, to a railroad and logging town. From an Old Prison town to hosting the new prison a few miles out of town. We’re involved in community enrichment with the local Rotary Club, Territorial Days, 4H and the TriCounty Fair, among others. Our banking reach extends even farther.
At 1st Security Bank of Deer Lodge, our community grows with our customers, even when they move to other locations in Montana and other places throughout the West.
Our Team
Colter Cumin - CEO
Colter Cumin serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board for 1st Security Bank of Deer Lodge. He positions 1st Security Bank to be the ablest provider of exceptionally high touch banking service to its customers. Colter believes that the smart provision of banking services serves as the foundation of our entire financial system. Where individuals have thriving banking relationships, there exists thriving individuals in this incredible system of capitalism that unleashes the human potential like no other system conceived in the world. Colter has served customers with all their banking needs for the past 15 years in a variety of different capacities. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in finance from the University of Montana and a Masters of Business Administration also from the University of Montana. Colter spent much of his early formative years on a ranch in Central Montana. He also served in the Army Infantry and completed a full deployment in Iraq. Colter is happily married to his wife JonCee and the couple have three young children. He is also involved with various community organizations. Colter’s recreational pursuits span the gamut of all the great opportunities that the outdoors of Western Montana has to offer, making memories with his wife & children, and the reading of great books & the pondering of grand ideas.
Tom Christnacht - President
Tom has worked at First Security Bank of Deer Lodge for almost 40 years! He has watched the bank and the Deer Lodge area grow and prosper over the years. He and his wife Janet love the area and enjoy anything outdoors, skiing, golfing, hiking, boating, etc. Tom and Janet have three grown daughters and 4 granddaughters. “The best part of my job is helping people succeed and reach their goals.”
Elizabeth Lowery – CFO/COO
Elizabeth (Liz) Lowery has been with 1st Security Bank of Deer Lodge for 15 years working in all the different positions within the Bank. She is currently CFO/COO at the Bank and enjoys helping customers find deposit solutions that work best for them, working along-side an excellent banking team, and keeping the Bank running on a day-to-day basis. In her free time, she loves exploring our beautiful state, traveling, singing, acting, reading, and spending time with family. Elizabeth is married to her wonderful Don, and they have two horses, three cats, and a sweet border collie.
Jana Baker – Vice President
Jana Baker is part of the leadership team as vice-president and lender. A graduate of Vanguard University, she has lived in Deer Lodge almost 20 years. Jana has worked at 1st Security since 2009 in various capacities, and she loves helping customers with lending and deposit needs. Outside of work, Jana loves spending time with David, her husband of 35 years, and the families of her four adult daughters. She enjoys table games with friends, a good book, and the occasional zip line. Music is her passion as she sings, plays the piano, and leads worship at her local church.
Dana Wickman
Dana brings a broad range of experience to our bank. She's spent a career in the banking industry with a large national bank, as well as experience as a realtor. Dana's role at the bank spans from the nuts and bolts of daily operations to implementation of special projects that make operations flow as smoothly as possible. Dana loves time with family and friends, and loves the pace of life in western Montana.
Jenesis Allick
Jenesis joined the 1st Security team in 2015 in the teller window and worked in the “front of the house” for several years before transitioning to the lending department as a loan processor. She loves working in customer service and meeting new people. An Anaconda native, Jenesis lives there still, enjoying life with her husband and daughter. Outside of work, Jenesis loves hanging out with her family, taking care of her dogs, enjoying good food, and watching movies.
Alisha Noll
Alisha joined the bank in 2021, initially as a Teller, and has branched out into other responsibilities including new accounts, and back-office accounting. Alisha enjoys the friendly atmosphere of the bank which gives her the opportunity to build new relationships with our customers. Away from work, Alisha likes traveling, attending concerts and live music events. She enjoys going to the movies and has a taste for seeking out new and exotic foods during her travels.
Amanda Mattice
Amanda is a native of Deer Lodge and joined our team in 2018. She wears many hats at the bank, including operating as a teller, opening new accounts, being an online banking guru and even working the “back office magic” – the behind the scenes duties that are so valuable. Amanda is mother to two lovely children. Away from the bank, she loves spending time with family and enjoying a good book now and then.
